Privileges & Responsibilities

While the Institute retains ultimate authority over student organizations’ financial and space resources, the allocation and management of these resources is a collaborative process involving student organizations, their governing boards, and Institute staff. Student organizations have access to special Institute privileges provided by the ASA and the SOLE Office. To retain access to these privileges, all student organizations are required to fulfill specific responsibilities that are monitored by the ASA, the SOLE Office, CAC, and the DSL.

Student Organization Privileges

Use MIT's Name

All student organizations can use MIT’s name and graphic identity according to Institute use-of-name guidelines in association with the organization.

Access to a Group Page on Engage

Each student organizations is provided with a group page on Engage, the MIT student organization management online platform.

Reserve Campus Spaces

All student organizations can reserve space on campus and host events and activities.

Apply for Office or Storage Space

All student organizations can apply for ASA-allocated student organization office or storage space.

Request Funding

All student organizations can request funding from the Student Group Funding Council (SGFC), request LEF/Arcade funding from the ASA, and fundraise for their group.

Access to a Financial Account & Advising

All student organizations can request financial guidance and support, including financial account(s), provided by the SOLE Office staff.

Access to Leadership Development & Advising

All student organizations can request leadership development and advising from the SOLE Office staff.

Access to an Athena Locker

All student organizations can request an Athena locker provided by IS&T.

ASA Representation

Each student organization is provided with a vote at ASA General Body Meetings.

Participate in the ASA Activities Midway

All student organizations can register to participate in the ASA Activities Midway: Fall (Orientation) and Spring (Campus Preview Weekend).

Student Organization Responsibilities

Complete Annual Re-Registration

All student organizations are required to successfully complete the re-registration process annually during their assigned re-registration cycle.

Complete Required Trainings

All student organizations are required to complete all necessary trainings associated with the activities of their student organization.

Abide by their Constitution

All student organizations are required to manage their group business and activities according to their student organization's constitution.

Comply with Institute Policies

All student organizations are required to comply with all Institute policies, including SOLE Office and ASA policies, and risk management expectations at all times.
