The Purpose of the Addir Interfaith Engagement Association is to promote greater harmony, connection and empathy across the full spectrum of religious, spiritual and philosophical identities within the MIT community and in the world beyond. The word 'addir' is an ancient Sumerian word for bridge, and Addir seeks to build bridges both between individuals who orient around religion differently and between different religious, spiritual and philosophical communities. We offer two general practices a week: on Monday and Thursday evenings. The club provides barebow recurve equipment including bows, arrows, quivers, finger tabs, and arm guards. We have a head coach (certified level 4 coach) that attends practice once a week and several student instructors (certified level 2 coaches).

The Borderline began as a project to cover the 200 foot long wall in the tunnels under the campus of MIT. The tunnel is a commonly used route between MIT Buildings 66 and E17 during bad weather; it is a useful connection to get from point A to point B, but Borderline aimed to make it a destination through art and technology.

In the spring of 2017, over 25 MIT-affiliated artists started painting murals in the tunnels. Since then, Borderline has expanded to over 65 murals in the tunnels and Banana Lounge (26-110) on campus. More murals and animations are being added every semester.

Beyond the tunnels, Borderline has collaborated on projects with numerous organizations, such as the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and Porto Seguro Cultural Center in São Paulo, Brazil. Borderline has been featured in The Boston Globe, VICE Motherboard, and other publications.

The magic of Borderline comes in the form of augmented reality via the Artivive app, available for Android and iOS. Simply point your phone camera at the AR-enabled murals to unearth hidden animations!

MIT BrainTrust is one of the founding chapters of Synapse, a national organization composed of student-run service organizations whose primary aim is to serve local individuals with brain injury and other brain-related conditions. To support these individuals, we organize a variety of events such as social gatherings (ex: trips to the Museum of Fine Arts, picnics at MIT) and technology help sessions. We also have a unique buddy program, where we directly pair students and individuals with brain injury in order to provide these individuals with further guidance, immediate advice, and friendship. In addition to supporting local individuals with brain injury, we also strive to educate the community about brain-related disorders through panel lectures featuring physicians, researchers, and patients; brain injury discussion panels; and brain injury awareness booths.
Through these initiatives, we hope to provide real-world opportunities to students and the greater MIT community interested in topics such as cognitive science, healthcare, medicine, assistive technology, and cognitive/neurological prosthetics. BrainTrust helps our student members expand their understanding of the patient side of many neurological conditions and also learn about new technologies being developed in the healthcare field.

The purpose of our group is to increase the accessibility of indoor rock climbing within the MIT community and form an indoor rock climbing community. The mission of dynaMIT is to provide Boston/Cambridge area middle school students from underserved families an opportunity to learn and experience science and engineering through hands-on science experiments and challenges. This is accomplished through two free, week-long summer science programs: one week is for sixth and seventh graders, while the second week is for eighth and ninth graders. MIT undergraduates serve as mentors and role models who teach students about science and how it relates to their daily lives. We train in practical and effective self defense–both traditional and modern. We employ extensive scenario based self-defense education appropriate for all body types, fitness, and experience levels. A true martial art is neither a sport nor a dance; it must be as effective on the street as it is in class… it must train the practitioner for the probable and prepare them for the unthinkable.

The American Jiu-Jitsu Club has been at MIT since 1994. We learn and practice Jiu-Jitsu (jujutsu, ju-jitsu), or the "Gentle Art," consisting of a wide variety of techniques: joint locks, submission holds, throws, strikes, fighting with improvised weapons, unarmed weapon defense (defending against someone with a gun, knife, or blunt weapon when you don't have one yourself), and ground-defense–not to mention de-escalation techniques and strategies. Jiu-Jitsu does not rely on brute strength, but rather on flexible response, the use of an attacker's own momentum against them, and using basic physics and anatomy principles to our advantage. Jiu-Jitsu prepares a person for any situation, including stand-up and ground fighting with and without weapons, and being attacked by multiple opponents at once.

During the semester, we run practices on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9-11 PM, and on Sundays from 3-5 PM, in the DuPont wrestling room in Building W32. During the summer, we run practices on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 7-9 PM, and on Sundays from 3-5 PM, also in the DuPont wrestling room.
