Student Organization Event Types & Regulations

Large Events (Attendance of 200+)

Category 3 Event

Atlas Event Registration must be submitted at least 10 business days prior to the event date.

Event Space Reservation must be confirmed at least 30 business days prior to the event date.

  • Criteria for Events Requiring Metal Detectors

    Criteria for Events Requiring Metal Detectors
    The event has an anticipated attendance of 250+ (or as determined by MIT Police); AND
    The event is open to non-MIT students; AND
    The event includes alcohol being served, there is a live band, DJ, or other form of entertainment, or event has special circumstances, as determined by MIT Police (i.e. VIP speaker, certain government officials, foreign dignitaries.)
    Events Requiring Metal Detectors Policies
    Event Host(s) must meet with SOLE Office staff members, CAC staff members, and MIT Police officers at least 10 business days prior to the event date to discuss the event logistics.
    Event Host(s) must coordinate a plan for metal detector use at the event with their assigned CAC Event Manager and MIT Police officers.
    Event Host(s) must ensure that all event participants present a valid photo ID at the event check-in.
    Event Host(s) must publicize all event restrictions (e.g., "No bags and no cameras") in all event advertisements as well as at the event.
    Unless restrooms are located outside of the event venue, no re-entry is allowed at events where metal detectors are required. Once an event participant leaves the event, they are prohibited from re-entering the event.
  • Event Registration Process

    1. Event Host must have an Event Space Reservation confirmed at least 30 business days prior to the event date.
    2. Event Host must register the event via the Atlas Event Registration System at least 10 business days prior to the event date.
    3. Event Host(s) must meet with SOLE Office staff members, CAC staff members, and MIT Police officers at least 10 business days prior to the event date to discuss the event logistics.
