Event Policies
| Criteria for Events Requiring an MIT Environment, Health, and Safety Office (EHS) Safety Plan |

| The event involves animals. |
| The event involves candles or sterno. |
| The event involves decorations. |
| The event involves fog, haze, or smoke. |
| The event involves structures that people enter or climb on, or involves structures with electrical, mechanical, pressure, or other hazards. This type of event may also require a One-Day Amusement License from the City of Cambridge. |
| The event involves tents. |
| The event involves hazardous materials, including demonstrations or experiments involving biological, chemical, or radioactive materials (and related waste) or equipment or machinery (e.g., metal/woodworking tools, high voltage, pressure equipment). |
Event Registration Process
| 1. Event Host must have an Event Space Reservation confirmed at least 10 business days prior to the event date. |
| 2. Event Host must submit an EHS Online Safety Form. |
| 3. Event Host must receive event approval from the EHS Coordinator for the Division of Student Life (DSL) and potentially other departments (e.g., fire department). The EHS Office will assist with identifying and addressing safety concerns, but Event Hosts are responsible for supervising the event and ensuring the safety plan’s execution. |
| 4. If event activities change significantly and introduce new safety concerns, Event Host must update and resubmit the safety plan for EHS review and approval. |
| 5. Event Host must register the event via the Atlas Event Registration System at least 10 business days prior to the event date. |
