About Us
The purpose of the MIT Wind is to promote wind energy education and outreach within MIT and in the greater Boston community. The goal educational component of MIT Wind is to prepare students with the skills and connections to enter the wind energy industry. For undergraduate members, the centerpiece of MIT Wind is participation in the Department of Energy Collegiate Wind Competition (CWC), an annual event in which the objective is to build an operational model turbine to compete against other collegiate teams. Graduate students and non-student members in MIT Wind can serve as mentors to the CWC team. Additionally, all members join a network of professional connections to industry leaders, faculty, and renewable energy centers like the MIT Energy Initiative. MIT Wind facilitates networking events, wind farm site tours, and other professional development activities. Finally, MIT Wind serves as a platform for organizing K-12 educational outreach as well as community outreach regarding wind energy.
