The Borderline began as a project to cover the 200 foot long wall in the tunnels under the campus of MIT. The tunnel is a commonly used route between MIT Buildings 66 and E17 during bad weather; it is a useful connection to get from point A to point B, but Borderline aimed to make it a destination through art and technology.

In the spring of 2017, over 25 MIT-affiliated artists started painting murals in the tunnels. Since then, Borderline has expanded to over 65 murals in the tunnels and Banana Lounge (26-110) on campus. More murals and animations are being added every semester.

Beyond the tunnels, Borderline has collaborated on projects with numerous organizations, such as the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and Porto Seguro Cultural Center in São Paulo, Brazil. Borderline has been featured in The Boston Globe, VICE Motherboard, and other publications.

The magic of Borderline comes in the form of augmented reality via the Artivive app, available for Android and iOS. Simply point your phone camera at the AR-enabled murals to unearth hidden animations!

The purpose of the DUSP Undergraduate Club is to bring together MIT students who are interested in urban planning and social issues. Many DUSP students have expressed a desire to get to know other students who share their academic interest in planning. This club will enable planning students to organize community-building events and engage with other student organizations, expanding opportunities for all MIT students to learn about the field of planning. The mission of dynaMIT is to provide Boston/Cambridge area middle school students from underserved families an opportunity to learn and experience science and engineering through hands-on science experiments and challenges. This is accomplished through two free, week-long summer science programs: one week is for sixth and seventh graders, while the second week is for eighth and ninth graders. MIT undergraduates serve as mentors and role models who teach students about science and how it relates to their daily lives. The mentors give them a fun and safe environment to explore their interests, and encourage them to consider potential careers in science and technology.

The mission of the Graduate Muslim Student Association (GMSA) is to provide a dedicated community space that specifically addresses the spiritual, social, and professional needs of Muslim graduate students. Unlike the already existing Muslim Student Association (MSA), the GMSA uniquely focuses on graduate students’ experiences and responsibilities, which differ significantly from those of undergraduates—the primary target audience of the MSA. The community space aims to facilitate deeper connections among graduate peers, provide tailored spiritual guidance, offer networking and professional development opportunities specifically relevant to graduate students, and support members navigating challenges unique to graduate life, including balancing intensive academic research, career preparation, and family responsibilities.
The raison d’être of the GMSA arose naturally from the consistently low turnout of graduate students at MSA events and from the expressed enthusiasm within the graduate community for establishing a dedicated association that actively responds to their specific circumstances and needs. Through this distinct focus, the GMSA seeks not only to strengthen the engagement of Muslim graduate students within the MIT community but also to enhance collaboration with other graduate-focused organizations, enriching the broader campus experience.

The Leadership Training Institute (LTI) is a 10-week program in which MIT undergraduates mentor Boston-area high school students, helping them gain leadership skills while implementing original community service projects. Many high school students are passionate about solving community problems; however, they often lack the experience and mentorship to effectively pursue their ideas. At LTI, we offer such motivated students the skills, guidance, and individualized support to translate their ideas into real impact. By pairing local high school students from underprivileged backgrounds with MIT undergraduates who have previously implemented successful community service projects, LTI helps high school students and MIT undergraduates alike develop their untapped leadership and service potential. In this way, LTI catalyzes branching social change by cultivating innovative ideas. The MIT Lecture Series Committee has been bringing quality entertainment to the MIT campus since 1944. In 1950 our popular film program began. Over the years, we have kept at the forefront of cinema technology, featuring four-track magnetic surround sound when monaural sound was the norm. Thus was born the phrase "IN STEREO!" -- an in-joke in the MIT community (come to an LSC movie and find out why).

Today, LSC features state-of-the-art digital motion picture projection on a 26'x13' screen and 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound, with over 9000 watts of amplification in addition to a newly revived 35 mm projection series with a two-projector changeover system. Our weekly films showcase a diverse selection of Hollywood blockbusters, foreign and independent film, and the best of classic cinema.

From time to time, LSC also features special events such as the Science Fiction Marathon, advance screenings of films not yet released to theaters, lectures by famous personalities, concerts, and more.
