The Purpose of the Addir Interfaith Engagement Association is to promote greater harmony, connection and empathy across the full spectrum of religious, spiritual and philosophical identities within the MIT community and in the world beyond. The word 'addir' is an ancient Sumerian word for bridge, and Addir seeks to build bridges both between individuals who orient around religion differently and between different religious, spiritual and philosophical communities. Addir seeks to promote a council of cooperation, learning, and growth amongst the various religious and secular groups on MIT’s campus. Addir encourages increased understanding of all religious and secular worldviews in the MIT community through an Interfaith Dialogue Fellowship, open events, campaigns and initiatives across campus.

ARCTAN, or the American Red Cross Team And Network, is the official liaison between the
American Red Cross and the MIT community. Operating in cooperation with the Massachusetts
Bay chapter of the American Red Cross, ARCTAN runs blood drives, raises funds, teaches CPR
and first aid, and provides volunteers for disaster relief and food pantry activities. ARCTAN is
run by MIT students, and its members are MIT students, staff, alumni and affiliates.
