Cathy Park Hong, poet, writer, and professor, visits MIT to discuss representation and identity in the context of her award winning book Minor Feelings: An Asian American Reckoning. The book, a series of essays depicting her life growing up as Korean American in the United States, focuses on the Asian American experience of being both invisible and lauded as a "model minority".

The conversation with Cathy Park Hong, facilitated by Lily Tsai, Chair of Faculty, will take place virtually. Audience members have the option to tune in virtually or in-person in Room 32-124. Food will be provided at the in-person viewing.

├óÔé¼ÔÇ╣Sponsored by and in collaboration with the OMP at SPXCE, ICEO, Sloan, WGS, SAAS, School of Science, MIT Libraries, APA ERG, Dept of Global Languages, AAI, and Dept of History.

We would like to emphasize that this book and the event may not speak to every Asian American experience as it is part of the author's experience as a Korean American. Far from a monolith, Asian Americans are often treated as such and we hope to explore unifying and common threads, as well as make space to acknowledge the ways that each Asian ethnicity differs. We hope that this series of events will spark deeper conversation among the MIT community of common issues faced by the Asian American community.
