Join us in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with the highly anticipated La Borinqueña Fall Book Tour with Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez! Edgardo will talk about how growing up with a love of comic books gave light for his passion for social justice. He will address the humanitarian crisis affecting Puerto Rico via the current debt crisis and the recovery efforts after Hurricane Maria. Through his presentation you’ll come to understand why he created La Borinqueña to help bring these issues to light and also create an icon for an underrepresented community that embodies cultural pride, power, and resilience like its people.

Key topics of discussion:
1) A historical overview of Puerto Rico
2) A discourse on the impact of climate change int Puerto Rico
3) An introduction into graphic novel storytelling for social change

Event Sponsors: Office of Multicultural Programs (OMP), Latino Cultural Center (LCC), Association of Puerto Ricans (APR), Women's & Gender Studies (WGS), MIT Libraries, Hermanas Unidas & the Anthropology Department.
