Film Scoring Workshop

 Events

On November 17th, the MIT Lewis Library became a place for the art of film scoring as we hosted a captivating workshop featuring Tina Deng from Berklee College of Music. The event unfolded in two dynamic parts.

Initially, participants gathered in the Lewis Music Library conference room, where Tina, with her expertise, delivered an insightful lecture on the classifications and functions of film music, exemplified by some film clips. This session provided a comprehensive understanding of the pivotal role music plays in shaping cinematic narratives.

The workshop then seamlessly transitioned into a hands-on experience. Tina demonstrated her prowess by demonstrating several film scoring projects, offering a real-time glimpse into the intricate process of composition and orchestration using Logic Pro. The audience was not only inspired but also equipped with practical insights into the art of film scoring.

The highlight of the day came when Tina distributed an un-scored film clip from Monster Inc. Participants eagerly huddled around computers in the Lewis Music Library, immersing themselves in the creative process. With Tina's guidance and encouragement, they crafted their own musical accompaniments, breathing life into the visual narrative.

This workshop not only exposed attendees to the nuances of film scoring but also provided a rare opportunity to apply their newfound knowledge in a hands-on setting. A huge thank you to Tina Deng and everyone who made this event a resonating success, leaving us all with a harmonious blend of inspiration and creativity.
